Ohio State Buckeyes: Women’s Hockey going for a repeat
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State Buckeyes are synonymous with winning. Ohio State has programs in a variety of sports that win all the time. The women’s hockey program is no different. They are the defending national champions and entered in this year’s tournament as a number-one seed.
Since getting that top seed, the Buckeyes have run through the field. They have beaten Quinnipiac and Northeastern by a combined score of 8-2, including a shutout in the semifinals. Now, they have a shot to repeat as national champions as they take on Wisconsin on Sunday.
It’s interesting that there will be two Big Ten representatives in the national championship. The Ohio State Buckeyes will certainly be the favorites to win this game after winning it all last year. It’s shaping up to be another good game to watch just like last year’s game.
I don’t pretend to be an expert on women’s hockey. But I do know that this game will come down to goaltending. Wisconsin has scored 16 goals in three games in this tournament. If the Buckeyes want to win another national title, they’re going to have to shut down the Badgers’ offense.
Ohio State has something that the Badgers do not though, and that is championship-level experience. The Buckeyes won’t be afraid of the moment because they’ve been there before. It won’t be something new. Wisconsin will have to deal with nerves that they’ve never experienced.
The game will be on Sunday at 4 pm ET on ESPNU. I suggest taking some time away from watching basketball to watch these women try to repeat as national champs.
