Former Ohio State football player Ezekiel Elliott has spent his entire NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys. He was drafted 4th overall in the 2016 Draft by Dallas after having a stellar career with the Buckeyes. That’s the highest a running back has been drafted since.

Elliott had some good moments with the Cowboys right away. He rushed for 1,631 yards and 15 touchdowns in his rookie season, both are still career highs. In his time with the Cowboys, Zeke is now the third-leading rusher in Dallas Cowboys history.

After getting a six-year $90 million extension heading into the 2019 season. That was a massive extension to give to a running back, and it seems the Cowboys regretted it almost immediately. In the last two seasons, he’s become the second back to Tony Pollard.

Elliott has now been released by Dallas and is a free agent for the first time in his career. He’s now free to sign with any team he wants. One of the things teams will be wary of with him is the fumbling issues he’s gotten over the past few seasons.

Zeke fumbled 6 times in 2018, 3 times in 2019, and 6 more times in 2020. That season in 2020 was really the last straw for him being the lead back in Dallas. Whichever team signs him needs to work with him to make sure that he doesn’t keep putting up big fumble numbers.

I’m not sure what teams are interested in him at the moment. But Zeke is probably the biggest name in the NFL to hit free agency this cycle. Aaron Rodgers isn’t a free agent, so he doesn’t count. The former Ohio State football player is still very popular among fans.
