The Ohio State football team keeps getting guys paid in the NFL. The latest one is former Buckeye defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones.

Dre’Mont Jones was one of the best football players on the 2018 Ohio State football team and now he’s getting paid in the NFL. Jones signed a deal with the Seattle Seahawks yesterday. The contract is worth $51 million over three seasons with over $23 million guaranteed.

Jones had an excellent season last year for the Denver Broncos, recording 6.5 sacks and a forced fumble in only 12 games played. In four seasons with Denver since becoming a third-round draft pick of theirs in 2019, Jones has 22 sacks in a four-season span.

Jones had this to say about the signing, from Josina Anderson:

"“I feel like they have the biggest belief in me. They have a really promising team, and I am looking forward to transitioning to that city.”"

With the need for defensive tackles so prevalent in the NFL, Jones picked a great season to cash in as a free agent. He also becomes the second former Buckeye to sign a contract this week, joining safety Vonn Bell who signed with the Carolina Panthers.

It would have been awesome to see what the 2018 Ohio State defense could have accomplished had Nick Bosa stayed healthy with Chase Young on the opposite side of the line and Dre’Mont Jones causing havoc up the middle. Jones finished that 2018 campaign with 8.5 sacks, 43 tackles, and an interception for the Buckeyes.

This free agent deal is also another feather in the cap of Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson, who continues to get his guys paid in the NFL. Any defensive line recruit who is considering the Buckeyes has to take that into account.

Next. One freshman that’s standing out. dark

The former Cleveland, Ohio native was rumored to have interest in his hometown team, but the Seattle deal was too good for him to pass up. The Browns instead signed former Vikings defensive tackle Dalvin Tomilson.
