The Ohio State basketball season didn’t end up going exactly as planned. They finished under .500 and missed the NCAA Tournament. The Buckeyes couldn’t quite get passed some injuries that were affecting key members of the team once they had to take on Purdue.

Brice Sensabaugh was shut down for the season with a knee injury. Not having their best scorer certainly affected how they played the Boilermakers. He’s someone that could have been able to hit tough shots and bailed the Buckeyes out when they couldn’t get anything going offensively.

This is after Zed Key was out for the season after hurting his shoulder. It was hurt first in Maui and hurt it again multiple times throughout the year. He eventually hurt it bad enough against Iowa that he ended up having to shut it down for the year.

Chris Holtmann also mentioned that other players were suffering from injuries as well. He didn’t disclose what the injuries were or who was suffering from them, but the team needs to get healthy before next season starts. That’s the most important thing they need to do.

Having healthy players returning next year and adding in another top-ten recruiting class should make next year’s Ohio State basketball team pretty good. It’s certainly going to be a year that will tell us how long Holtmann will be leading the program.

If he has another year like he had this year, he won’t be leading the team anymore. There are no more excuses for him. Injuries de-railed this season to an extent, but that still wasn’t the reason why the Buckeyes finished 13th in the Big Ten.

A healthy Buckeye team should make fans a lot happier next season. Let’s hope everyone has a good offseason where they get healthy and improve their skills.
