Ohio State Football: Buckeyes crushing Michigan in Spring Game attendance
The Ohio State football team knows how to do a Spring Game correctly. Its rival, Michigan, does not.
The annual Ohio State football team’s Spring Game will be on Saturday, April 15th this year, with an expected attendance of over 50,000 fans. The Buckeyes use the annual game to not only fine-tune their skills from spring practices but also to use it as a lure for recruits to come and visit Columbus.
Last year, Ryan Day and Ohio State hosted over 40 recruits for the game and a good number of those players chose the Buckeyes on signing day last December. Looking at Michigan’s number of six hosted recruits at its spring game in 2022 and the comparison is laughable. And that reflected the ranking on national signing day when Ohio State had a top-five recruiting class while the Wolverines came in at No. 19, according to 247 Sports.
It’s just another example of how the Buckeyes program is more well-run than Michigan’s. And yes, the Wolverines have won the last two games, but Ohio State is 8-2 over the last decade. And the health of the programs reflects that record. The Buckeyes continue to recruit at an elite level and use events such as the spring game to bolster their standing of prominence in college football.
Michigan fails to use that tool to its advantage. The Buckeyes had over 60,000 fans in attendance at the Spring Game last year while Michigan couldn’t even crack 30,000 fans. Some will point out that the weather wasn’t great in Ann Arbor last year. Well, it wasn’t that great in Columbus either.
The annual Spring Game will continue to be a weapon that Ryan Day and Ohio State take full advantage of. Currently, the Buckeyes will have over 65 recruits in Columbus for spring practices and the game, with that number expected to dramatically increase.
It’s just one more thing that Ohio State does better than Michigan.
