Ryan Day has had his fair share of criticism over his inability to win big games. Specifically, his inability to beat TTUN. But, he still has brought the Ohio State football team to the playoffs three out of the four years he has been the head coach of the program.

At first, he was the undisputed best head coach in the conference. That made sense considering the 2019 team is the best Ohio State football team I’ve ever seen in person and the 2020 team made the National Championship Game. That narrative has changed though.

After losing to TTUN in ugly fashion the last two seasons, an argument can be made that Jim Harbaugh has surpassed Day as the best coach in the Big Ten. I’m still not sure that I agree with that argument, but it’s something I’d listen to. But at the very worst, Day is second-best.

Bruce Feldman ranks Ohio State football coach Ryan Day behind James Franklin.

Apparently, not everyone agrees. Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports and the Athletic did something very wild. He ranked James Franklin ahead of Day in terms of being a better coach. He listed out his top ten coaches in college football as you can see below.

I can’t argue with the top three coaches. All of them have multiple national titles. I even just said you could talk me into Harbaugh being better than Day. But James Franklin???? Are you kidding me??? The guy That went 11-11 from 2020-2021?

That’s an insane ranking. Franklin has also beaten Ohio State once since he got to State College in 2014. That was back in 2016, and Ohio State still made the CFP over Penn State. To have him ranked over Day is completely absurd and quite frankly stupid.

I’m not sure why I’m surprised though. Feldman called Ohio State “glorified Iowa” back in 2021 despite having won the past four Big Ten Championships heading into that season. Someone needs to knock some sense into him.
