The Ohio State basketball team came into their matchup against Michigan State without their best offensive player. Brice Sensabaugh was ruled out with a knee injury. He’s the Buckeyes’ top scorer. It was supposed to be impossible for them to beat the Spartans.

Instead, the Buckeyes dominated the game from start to finish. They took a nine-point lead into halftime and held Michigan State to just 24 points. After that, they increased their lead and won the game 68-58 in the most impressive game they’ve played all season.

Roddy Gayle once again had a huge game. He finished with 15 points, including 12 of them in the second half. Gayle was perfect from the three-point line, knocking in three shots from deep. His ability to step up on offense was desperately needed with Sensabaugh’s absence.

Bruce Thornton had another great game, leading the Buckeyes in scoring. He had 21 points on 8/17 shooting while adding 4 rebounds and 6 assists. His play is the single biggest reason why Ohio State has won three games in three days and is moving on to the semifinals.

The Ohio State basketball team shot 53% from three in this game and held Michigan State to just 19%. That was the difference in this game. Michigan State shoots over 40% from deep on the season, so to hold them under 20% is fantastic. Can they do it again tomorrow?

The Buckeyes are now the lowest-seeded team in Big Ten Tournament history to make the semifinals. They will take on the top seed in the Tourney in Purdue, a team that started the Buckeyes’ midseason slide. It’s going to be another tough game to win.

If they somehow win that one, the Buckeyes will play for a Big Ten Tournament title and a chance to make the NCAA Tournament. That would truly be unbelievable.
