Ohio State Football starts Spring practice today
By Ryan Stano
After a long winter wait, the Ohio State football team will start Spring practice today. They will have 15 practices that will ultimately culminate into the Spring Game in mid-April. That will be a game that everyone will be interested in for a multitude of reasons.
The biggest story in a Spring full of storylines is the fight for the starting quarterback job. Which Buckeye will ultimately prevail? Will it be Kyle McCord or Devin Brown? This very well could be a battle that lasts into the Fall and may not be decided by the Spring Game.
Who is going to help protect the winner of that battle is also something we’ll be watching closely. The offensive line has to replace four starters on the offensive line. Only Donovan Jackson returns from last year. How will that go? It’s hard for that many starts to be changed and for it to go smoothly.
Ohio State also should have a better grasp of Jim Knowles’ defense. Last year was the first year under the defensive coordinator. He mentioned multiple times that the full defense wasn’t installed last year. It should be this year and we’ll get to see how these guys handle it.
Personally, I’m interested to see who the Spring Game wonder is this year for the Ohio State football team. Last year it was Kye Stokes. The year before that it was Jack Sawyer. I want to see who stands out this year and if they can use that performance to have a big year in 2023.
Today is just the first day of a new season. Things will take time to fall into place. It’s exciting to see the team back on the field and ready to get that terrible taste out of their mouth from what happened at the end of last season.
