Ohio State Football: Who increased draft stock the most?
By Ryan Stano
The Combine is officially over in Indianapolis. Teams got to see draft prospects from all across the country come and try to improve their draft stocks. Ohio State football players did the same thing and most of them actually took part in workouts on the field.
Several Buckeyes were looking to up their stock as much as possible. Which Ohio State football player was actually able to increase their stock the most after what we saw over the past week? Contrary to what some think, it may not have been C.J. Stroud.
Stroud’s floor isn’t very low. He was going to be a top-five pick heading into the Combine regardless of how he looked. Nothing that happened this week changed that. While he might have a case to be the top overall pick now, he didn’t increase his stock more than his offensive teammate.
That teammate is Dawand Jones. We knew Jones was going to measure well after his freakish measurements from the Senior Bowl came out. But he also performed well on the field. He ran a 5.36 40-yard dash as a 6’8 tackle. That’s pretty darn good for a man that big.
Jones probably won’t play left tackle at the next level, but he can be a darn good right tackle. He has proven that he can pass block with the best of them. It’s been about showing that he can get low enough with his big frame to get out and run block well enough.
I think Jones proved that and then some. He came into the Combine as a second-round pick in most mock drafts. I bet he gets taken in the first round now. He’s just too big and strong to not go in the first round. He’s going to make some team very happy that they got him.
With the Combine done, we just wait for Pro Days until the Draft in late April.
