Ohio State basketball falls in final regular season game
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball team came into the final regular season game against Michigan State having won two games in a row. They were riding high and looking to upset the Spartans in East Lansing. Unfortunately, they were not able to do so, falling 84-78.
Ohio State was looking to end the season on a high. They got a good game from Bruce Thornton. He finished with 20 points on 7/15 shooting including four made threes. He’s become much more aggressive on the offensive end of the court.
Brice Sensabaugh also had 21 points on 7/15 shooting. He also made three three-pointers. Those two were the only sustainable sources of offense for the game, which has been typical for the last few years. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to win the game.
The Buckeyes came into the game as 6.5-point underdogs. They were just barely able to cover that spread. The Buckeyes got as close as three in the second half, but couldn’t quite overtake the lead. They didn’t get enough shots to fall late in the game.
With this loss, nothing really changes for the Ohio State basketball team. The Buckeyes couldn’t possibly improve their seed in the Big Ten Tournament. They will likely either play Nebraska or Wisconsin. Regardless of who they play, they will play on Wednesday against one of them. The Buckeyes will need to win the the Big Ten Championship in order to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
Ohio State doesn’t have a good chance to do that obviously. Their season will likely end next week. But a great run would be fun to watch!
