Ohio State basketball vs. Maryland: Betting preview, predictions
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball team will be celebrating Senior Night tonight as they take on Maryland at 7 pm. It will be the first time that the Buckeyes have a chance to win back-to-back games since the end of January. It’s been quite a while since they’ve been in this position.
Maryland is a team that is pretty darn good. They are ranked 21st in the country and have already beaten the Buckeyes this year. They come into tonight second in the Big Ten and with some hope to win a share of the Big Ten title if they can win their final two games.
Ohio State will finish 13th in the Big Ten no matter what happens in this game. They are just trying to play spoiler to the Terrapins’ hopes of winning the Big Ten title. Can they take the momentum they got from beating Illinois and use it to play well again tonight?
Ohio State basketball vs. Maryland: Best bets
According to FanDuel, the Buckeyes are 1.5-point underdogs. I’m surprised Maryland isn’t favored by more. I understand Ohio State finally won a game, but that still seems like a low spread to me. I would take Maryland by 1.5 at -104 odds if you think the Illinois game was a fluke
If you think the Buckeyes are going to win, take Brice Sensabaugh’s over on his point total. That sits at 15.5. If you parlay that with a Buckeye win, you get +180 odds. I don’t think Ohio State can win this game unless Sensabaugh scores at least 18 points, so that’s not bad value.
Prediction: Ohio State basketball 68 Maryland 75
As much as I enjoyed watching the Buckeyes play the Illini on Sunday, I don’t see them having a repeat performance. They just aren’t as well-coached as Maryland is and they don’t have anything to play for. If they get down early, I could see them giving up.
I don’t think they get down early though. I do think this team will play hard until the end, but they just don’t have quite enough to win. Problems with the press could arise again just as it did in College Park when Maryland turned that game into a victory.
I was happily wrong on Sunday. I’ll take being wrong again tonight!
