Ohio State basketball gets a big win on Senior Day
By Ryan Stano
For the first time in the year 2023, the Ohio State basketball team has won back-to-back games. It was Senior Night for the Buckeyes and they were able to win won for the old guys against a pretty darn good Maryland team. Maryland is ranked 21st in the country.
The Buckeyes ended up winning 73-62 and actually was able to handle the press for the first time all season long. Maryland used a full-court press to screw up the Buckeyes in their last meeting in College Park. That didn’t happen with this game.
Justice Sueing led the team in scoring with 16 points. He made half of those points from the free-throw line. Sueing was 8/8 from the free-throw line. In fact, the Buckeyes went a perfect 20/20 from the line. It’s the best the team has done from the line by far this year.
Those points from the line made the difference, as did their defense. While Maryland shot pretty well from the field, they weren’t able to make buckets when the game started to get close in the second half. This was also the first time that Ohio State was able to deal with the pressure of a close game.
Now that the Ohio State basketball team has won two games in a row, they have some momentum. They have one final game against Michigan State this weekend. The Buckeyes actually have a shot to finish the year winning three straight.
Could they possibly make a run in the Big Ten Tourney and miraculously make the NCAA Tournament? That still seems unlikely. But this is a talented Ohio State basketball team. They just needed things to come together. That might finally be happening now.
