Recruiting news is starting to heat up for the Ohio State football team as spring is right around the corner.

The Ohio State football team and head coach Ryan Day are off to a fast start on the 2024 recruiting class. With three hard commits, including one from five-star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, this class could shape up to be a good one.

But recruiting news really starts to heat up now as spring is coming up quickly. Spring visits are being planned by recruits all throughout the country. Here is all the latest on the recruiting front for the Ohio State football team.

Williams-Dixon narrows his list to five

Sam Williams-Dixon, the local three-star running back from Pickerington North has narrowed his list of potential schools to five. And to no surprise, Ohio State is on that list with Tennessee, Kentucky, Penn State, and Rutgers.

With the need at running back high in 2024 for Tony Alford, getting a local talent like Williams-Dixon might make sense and pairing him with another elite back in the class. Much like how Evan Pryor and TreyVeon Henderson were paired in 2020.

Five-Star running back will visit Columbus

Speaking of running backs, five-star recruit Jerrick Gibson of IMG Academy in Florida is set to visit the Ohio State campus this spring, according to Eleven Warriors. Gibson is one of the top running backs in the entire 2024 class so getting him on campus would be a huge win for Tony Alford.

A top-25 player in the entire class, Gibson has shown interest in Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and Texas.

Top corner recruit confirms spring game visit

It’s been confirmed that four-star corner and top-70 national recruit Marcelles Williams of St. John Bosco High School in California will visit for the spring game. The Buckeyes have long been interested in Williams, initially offering him in 2021.

With Tim Walton now the corners coach, he’s taken a vast interest in developing a relationship with Williams and his family. Hosting them for the spring game is a big step in that development and hopefully, some momentum can head the Buckeyes way in this recruitment.

Top QB target will be in Columbus this spring

A top 2025 quarterback recruit, Ryan Montgomery of Findlay, Ohio will be in Columbus for the spring game on April 15th. Montogomery has long been seen as an Ohio State lean as he’s had a good relationship with Ryan Day for many years due to Day recruiting his older brother, Luke.

Montgomery however is planning on taking visits elsewhere, most notably Clemson who is seen to be the biggest threat to Ohio State for his commitment. However, if the Buckeyes can secure his commitment early, Ryan Day and his staff can start to piece the entire 2025 class around Montgomery as he should be a top 50 national player once rankings come out for the 2025 class.

It’s imperative that Ohio State locks down top quarterbacks from the state of Ohio. We’ve seen too many national players de-commit recently. And when that happens you let good players like Drew Aller slip through the cracks and go elsewhere.
