This has been the most frustrating Ohio State basketball season in the last 25 years. It’s a season in which nothing went well for the Buckeyes. They have three games left in the regular season and It will probably result in three more losses. How did this season go so off the rails?

It didn’t start out that way. Early this season, the Buckeyes played exactly as expected. They beat the teams they should and lost to the teams they should’ve. They weren’t expected to be a great team, but they were expected to be a solid team that should easily make the NCAA Tournament.

Early wins over Texas Tech and Cincinnati showed that they could beat some teams that were evenly matched with them. Losses to North Carolina and Duke showed that they were close, but not quite at a level where they could beat elite teams.

That’s when things started going off the rails. After blowing the game against Purdue, the Ohio State basketball team seemed to lose their confidence. That close loss sent them into a tailspin. They have now lost 14 of their past 15 games, starting with that loss to the Boilermakers.

The season has clearly gone off the rails now. It’s too late to get it back on too. It’s officially a lost season that will now be used for the development of the younger guys on the roster for next season. A lot of the minutes the rest of the way are going to go to the freshmen.

Next. Chris Holtmann shows he can't close games. dark

Those freshmen are going to be allowed to make mistakes to grow, which is a positive. It’s not like the Buckeyes are actually concerned with winning games at this point. A win is just a bonus. Chris Holtmann lost this season long ago and it’s time to just forget this season even happened.
