Ohio State basketball players voice frustration over season
By Ryan Stano
It’s been a long and frustrating season for the Ohio State basketball team. They have only 11 wins and just three of them are in the Big Ten. They were ranked in the top 20 at one point this season and are nowhere near that ranking now. There will be no NCAA Tournament for them.
For some of these guys, this is the worst basketball season they’ve ever been a part of. This is the worst Ohio State basketball season in 25+ years. The transfers coming from other places didn’t have seasons this bad elsewhere and the freshmen probably weren’t this bad in high school.
Frustration has definitely set in with this team and you can see it on the court. Guys have mentally checked out and don’t play with the same ferocity we saw earlier in the season. Bruce Thornton, who was named a captain midseason, voiced some frustration at how the season’s gone so far.
Thornton said this today during a press conference. What’s interesting to me is the second sentence. “Doesn’t matter how long I’m a Buckeye.” Is he saying that he could possibly transfer and leave the program after this season with how bad this season has been?
If he does I wouldn’t be shocked. This season has been a disaster and anyone telling you differently is lying to you. I wouldn’t be surprised to see at least some of the freshmen leave next season. That’s especially the case if Gene Smith keeps Chris Holtmann on another year.
I like Thornton and I like his game. Hopefully, he stays and can be part of the solution next year and helps this team get back on track.
