The Ohio State football team is ready to start Spring practices on March 7th. Here is one bold prediction for the Buckeyes this Spring.

The Ohio State football team is getting ready to start Spring practices come next month. Between recruiting, NIL, coaching staff changes, and managing the transfer portal, Buckeye coaches and players alike should welcome some actual football.

The Buckeyes have a lot of questions heading into the spring. Chief among them is who will earn the starting quarterback position between Kyle McCord and Devin Brown. While McCord appears to be the leader, Brown shouldn’t be overlooked. And assuming that head coach Ryan Day wants to keep both QB’s around for next fall, I wouldn’t expect Day to be in any hurry to make a decision.

But as we get ready for the 2023 season, some players will have to step up and take over new roles vacated by players leaving for the NFL. As we march into spring, here is one bold prediction for spring practices.

One current Buckeye locks down a position of need.

My bold prediction for the spring is that Zen Michalski locks down the open left tackle position this spring with ease. There will be stiff competition from Tegra Tshabola but the third-year player from Floyds Knobs, Indiana is ready for his moment.

Working exclusively with new offensive line coach Justin Frye, Michalski has really improved his technique from where he was a season ago. Michalski came in as a three-star recruit, mainly because he lacked prototypical tackle size coming into college. But two years with coach Mick in the weight room has brought him up to over 310 pounds, compared to 285 when he first arrived.

Couple Michalski’s growth as both a technician and an athlete together and Ohio State should be primed to see some significant results this spring. And Ryan Day surely needs someone to step up this spring or he could be looking again in the portal once the second transfer window opens.

Next. Georgia staff change could be great for Buckeyes. dark

This is a massive year for Michalski. He can either earn a starting role or he could become a forgotten man on the Buckeye depth chart. I predict that he’s ready for the challenge and earns the left tackle spot this spring.
