Ohio State Football: Which NFL team C.J. Stroud fits best with
By Ryan Stano
The NFL Draft is coming sooner than you think it is. The Combine is next week and NFL prospects from all across the country will try to improve their stock. Former Ohio State football player C.J. Stroud is one of those players looking to make a big impression.
We know his goal is to be the number one pick in the draft, but which team does he fit the best with? Chicago is likely to trade that number one pick to someone who needs a quarterback, so any number of teams could move up to that spot to make sure they get their guy.
Stroud could get drafted number one if the Bears decide to trade the pick, or he could get drafted at two in Houston. Or four in Indy. Or he could go to Carolina, Vegas, or some other destination. There is no shortage of teams that need a franchise quarterback.
So which team fits him the best? In my opinion, it’s the Indianapolis Colts. Okay, maybe I’m a bit biased here being a Colts fan, but hear me out! I’ve watched both Ohio State football and the Colts for my entire life, so I know a lot about how both teams operate.
The Colts have a new coach in Shane Steichan that has a great track record developing quarterbacks. He’s worked with two of the best, young quarterbacks in the NFL right now in Justin Herbert and Jalen Hurts. He just took Hurts to the Super Bowl this year.
Indianapolis also has one of the best running backs in the game in Jonathan Taylor. Stroud won’t be asked to do too much right away because he’s got a great back he can turn and hand the ball off to. He also has a couple of nice receivers to throw to in Michael Pittman Jr. and Alec Pierce.
Stroud is also big enough to withstand some hits. If he goes to Houston or Indy, he’s going to take a bit of a beating in his rookie year. At least Indy has had a good offensive line recently so they can fix that sooner than Houston can. Stroud’s strong arm also helps him drive the ball down the field, which is what Stiechan likes to do as well.
I think Indy would be the perfect place for Stroud to thrive in. We’ll find out where he goes in just over two months!
