What is the ceiling for the Ohio State women’s basketball team?

The Ohio State women’s basketball team started out the season 19-0. After that, they hit a bit of a rough patch, losing five of their next seven games. Now, they seemed to have righted the ship after back-to-back wins against Penn State and Michigan respectively.

As March approaches, how good is this team? How good can they still get? Those are questions that we have to answer. Unlike the men’s team, this team will actually be playing meaningful games next month. How much of a chance do they have to win it all?

Looking at the polls right now, they sit at 15. That would give them a top-four seed in the NCAA Tournament right now. They still have time to beef up their resume though. They just beat 12th-ranked Michigan and finish off the regular season against 7th-ranked Maryland.

Beating Maryland gives this team a chance at a top-three seed with just their regular-season resume. If they are able to win the Big Ten tournament too, they could get a one-seed. This team is talented enough to do that too, even without a fully healthy squad.

So how good can this Ohio State women’s basketball team be? I think they can be Final Four contenders with a team that is healthy. They are still waiting on Jacy Sheldon to be at full strength. She is arguably the best player the Buckeyes have. She’s hardly played this year.

Sheldon, along with Taylor Mikesell and Rikki Harris, can take this team pretty darn far. Those three players are all key contributors to the success that the team has had so far. Once Sheldon gets back, and hopefully that’s soon, this Buckeye team becomes downright scary.
