The Ohio State football team could be a beneficiary of Todd Monken leaving as the Georgia offensive coordinator. Monken left for the NFL.

The Ohio State football team lost its offensive coordinator this offseason as Kevin Wilson accepted the Tulsa head coaching position. But it’s another school that lost its offensive coordinator that could have a major impact on the Buckeyes’ 2023 season.

The Georgia Bulldogs lost Todd Monken to the Baltimore Ravens last week, a move that can change the trajectory of the Georgia program. Monken is by far one of the best game planners and play-callers in all of college football as Georgia will miss him greatly. Especially given the fact that Georgia will have to break in a new starting quarterback in 2023.

Monken really proved his worth in the fourth quarter against Ohio State in the Peach Bowl. Jim Knowles had figured out the Georgia offense in the third, but Monken was quick to adjust and promptly outscored the Buckeyes 18-3 in the fourth quarter.

Losing an offensive mind like Monken could be detrimental to Georgia’s ability to three-peat as champions next season, thus greatly helping Ohio State’s chances. Don’t get me wrong, Georgia still has five-star players up and down its offensive roster, but Monken was great at what he did. And he was the yin to Kirby Smart’s yang. Smart gave Monken full autonomy of the offense.

Georgia led the nation last season in total points as Moken was instrumental in getting Heisman finalist Stetson Bennett to play to the most of his capabilities as a quarterback.

Mike Bobo will take over as the play-caller in Athens. Bobo was the head coach at Colorado State from 2015-2019 and was the offensive coordinator at Georgia from 2007-2014 under Mark Richt. Bobo has the experience, but he is not nearly the coordinator that Monken is.

dark. Next. 3 coaches more annoying than Dabo Swinney

I believe that in college football it was Monken and Ryan Day right at the top in terms of calling a game offensively. With Monken in the NFL, the Ohio State football team’s chances at winning a possible rematch next December or January just rose dramatically.
