The Ohio State football team is in the lead for a key four-star cornerback recruit. Hopefully, the Buckeyes can get him to commit soon.

The Ohio State football team has been off on the recruiting trail this past month. Cornerbacks coach Tim Walton is hard at work trying to nail down some much-needed talent in his room. But some great news occurred over the weekend when four-star cornerback Miles Lockhart of Chandler, Arizona confirmed that Ohio State had the lead for his recruitment.

Lockhart, in an interview with Eleven Warriors, had this to say when asked about the Buckeyes’ chances at getting his commitment:

"“Nah, they’re the leader. Just keeping it 100.”"

This is great news as the Ohio State Buckeyes are in need of a talent injection at the cornerback position. Lockhart later went on to say that he expects to visit Columbus in June and may even make an appearance at the spring game in April.

Much will be riding on Tim Walton’s ability to recruit during this 2024 cycle. The Buckeyes lost four players to the transfer portal from the secondary after this past season and also lost a commitment on signing day for the 2023 class. Being thin on numbers, Walton needs to come up with results. Having a top recruit like Lockhart say that the Buckeyes are in the lead is a great step in that direction.

There’s still work to do as Utah, Oregon, and Northwestern are all battling for Lockhart as well. And don’t expect a commitment soon as he wants to take some official visits before making his commitment. But it sounds like Lockhart’s commitment is Ohio State’s to lose as 247Sports has already given a crystal ball to the Buckeyes.

Next. It’s officially time to part ways with Chris Holtmann. dark

I’m hoping once Lockart gets on campus and sees the atmosphere of the Spring Game and that could hopefully lock him down as a Buckeye. But there’s a lot of time between now and then so we will just have to wait and see.
