The Ohio State basketball team had only beaten two teams since the calendar flipped to 2023. Iowa was one of those teams that the Buckeyes did beat. They actually scored 93 in a win at the Schott against the Hawkeyes. They were going for the season sweep on Thursday night.

I had no faith in the Buckeyes winning the game. It seems I gave them too much credit in terms of the losing margin. Ohio State was down by as much as 28 in this game and got dominated in the second half and lost 92-75 Worse than getting blown out is the fact that players got injured as well.

Ohio State’s offense actually wasn’t terrible in this one. They scored more points than they usually do. It was their defense that ended up being the reason they lost this one. Iowa shot 57% from the field. You’re going to win a lot of games when you shoot it that well.

Turnovers were also a big issue. Ohio State had 14 turnovers in the game, with 9 of them in the first half. They just kept giving the ball away. Add that to playing terrible defense and you get another blowout loss for this Ohio State basketball team.

As far as the injuries are concerned, Roddy Gayle turned his ankle and had to be taken out of the game, although he did come back in later. He actually started this game for the second time in a row. Unfortunately, he didn’t do much when he was out there. He scored 6 points and turned the ball over twice before the injury occurred.

The bigger injury was to Zed Key. Once again, he hurt that left shoulder that he’s been trying to play through. He actually hurt it a couple of times in this game and finally had to leave early in the second half. I understand he’s trying to be tough, but he shouldn’t be out there. He needs to heal.

I do need to give some credit to Sean McNeil though. He was the one Buckeye who came to play in this game. He had 20 points on 7/7 shooting, including 4/4 from three. He tried his best to keep his team in it. It’s too bad no one else played like that.
