Ohio State football: Recruiting news heating up for Buckeyes
The news never stops for the Ohio State football team on the recruiting trail. Here are the latest news and notes.
The Ohio State football team and Ryan Day are starting to feel more comfortable on the recruiting front. NIL is starting to work itself out as the Cohesion collective was announced earlier this month as a sponsor of Ohio State athletics. Also came the news of The Foundation and The O Foundation merging together as one.
So, with that, Buckeye coaches are hard at work preparing for the 2024 recruiting class. Prized 2024 safety and five-star recruit KJ Bolden confirmed that he will be taking an official visit to Columbus on June 16th. This is huge news for Perry Eliano, who just so happens to be Bolden’s cousin. The need for a top safety recruit is critical as Jim Knowles implements a safety-driven defense.
Bolden is from Buford Georgia, and it looks like his recruitment will be coming down to Georgia and Ohio State. Hopefully, Eliano with his family ties can win out here. He currently sits as the No. 2 ranked player in the entire class according to 247Sports.
In other news, defensive line coach Larry Johnson offered Dominick McKinley a scholarship on Saturday. McKinley is a four-star defensive lineman from Lafayette, Louisiana. He is a late bloomer in this 2024 class and is just now starting to pull some big scholarship offers from schools like Ohio State, Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida State, and Tennessee.
Last but not least, the Buckeyes made a final seven list for one of the best defensive backs in the 2024 class. Ify Obidegwu, a four-star top-200 national recruit from Baltimore, Maryland announced on Twitter that Ohio State, Alabama, Maryland, Michigan, Oregon, Tennessee, and USC all made his final list of schools that he’s considering.
Obidegwu will visit Columbus in March as he’s built a solid relationship with Perry Eliano and Tim Walton over the past couple of months. He would be a massive get for the Buckeyes because he’s seen as a player who could play both corner and safety.
