Ohio State basketball: Will Brice Sensabaugh stay?
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball team doesn’t have a lot left to play for this season. They have lost 11 of their last 12 games and don’t look like they can win a single game left on their schedule. The offense is broken, as evidenced by the fact that they scored just 14 points in the first half against Michigan State.
Yet, there are still things that are worth watching for the rest of the season. The biggest thing, in my opinion, to watch is whether or not Brice Sensabaugh plays well enough to be a one-and-done. The Buckeyes had one of those last year in Malaki Branham.
Sensabaugh had played well enough earlier in the year to warrant this question. In fact, he looked like he was going to be a lottery pick. Now, that’s a major question. He seems to have lost confidence in his shot and has lost his efficiency on top of that.
Based on how he’s played recently, I think Sensabaugh should come back. He’s not playing like a first-round pick anymore. He still has a lot of things to work on. His inability to play-make for others is glaring, as is his inattention on the defensive end of the floor.
Until he corrects both of those, NBA teams are just going to see him as a heat-check guy off the bench and nothing more. He has a chance to improve both of those skill sets if he comes back to the Ohio State basketball program next year. I think he needs more time to develop.
We’ll see if he decides to come back next year. There’s a chance he ends up transferring out of the program anyway with how badly this season is going. Chris Holtmann could find himself with an exodus on his hands. I really do hope he comes back to Columbus though.
