Ohio State basketball vs. Michigan State: Preview, prediction
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball team will try to get a win for the first time in six games when they take on Michigan State today at 1 pm. The Buckeyes have lost 11 of their last 12 games and look completely lost. They sit at 11-13 and are just playing for pride at this point. There will be no postseason for them.
Despite this, they still have a chance to play spoiler today against the Spartans. Michigan State sits at 15-9 and are trying to hold onto a berth in the NCAA Tournament. A loss to Ohio State would certainly not be ideal for their resume at this point in the season.
The good news for them is that Ohio State has no confidence left. Even though the game is at home, no one in Columbus thinks they have a chance to win. Could that actually be a good thing for the Buckeyes though? Could they use this as motivation to come out and actually win the game?
If Chris Holtmann doesn’t want the calls for his job to get even louder, he needs to make sure he starts winning some games. He won’t get fired this year, but next year could get very hairy for him if this team doesn’t start showing some fight.
Ohio State basketball vs. Michigan State: Prediction
Until proven otherwise, I’m going to pick the Buckeyes to lose. The offense is stagnant and they can’t hit threes or free throws. That’s not a good combination to beat a Tom Izzo coached team. It’s not a good combination to beat anyone, honestly.
I don’t think the Buckeyes score more than 70 points in this game. Give me the Spartans 76-64. I don’t think it will be particularly close. The Buckeyes are just going through the motions.
