Ohio State Football vs. Georgia was most-watched game of 2022

I hate it when the College Football Playoff falls on New Year’s Eve. I think it’s one of the most annoying things that college football does every few years. When Sundays fall on New Year’s Day, they always play on New Year’s Eve to accommodate the NFL. The Ohio State football team has played twice on New Year’s Even in the CFP era.
Apparently, that doesn’t matter to TV viewers. The Peach Bowl fell on New Year’s Eve this year and saw the Ohio State football team take on Georgia. It ended up being the de-facto National Championship Game after the Bulldogs beat the snot out of TCU in the real one.
The Peach Bowl was the most-watched college football game of the 2022 season. It had 22.4 million total viewers despite the game ending just after midnight. This is a number that surprised even me considering that if you watched the full game, you missed the ball drop.
Not only was the game the most-watched game of 2022, but it was also the most-watched Peach Bowl ever. Adding to that, it was also the most-attended Peach Bowl ever. Fans really wanted to see the matchup of these two college football powerhouses.
We all know how the game ended. It still stings just thinking about it. But this showed how much Ohio State moves the needle when it comes to the national landscape. People tune in to watch the Buckeyes play football. They may be fans or they may be rooting against them. It doesn’t matter, they’re going to watch.
Hopefully, the Buckeyes can make the CFP again next year and have a better result than they did this past year. There are still about 10 months until we find out if that happens. It’s good to see that people love watching them play though.
