Thursday night was a good night to be a former Ohio State football player. The NFL Awards were presented on Thursday night and multiple Buckeyes left with some hardware after having a tremendous 2022 season. Let’s start with the rookie.

The Offensive Rookie of the Year Award was given to Garrett Wilson. Wilson was the 10th overall pick in the draft and was a superstar from the moment he stepped on the field for the Jets. This is despite getting some less-than-stellar quarterback play most of the year.

Wilson finished his rookie season with 83 catches for 1,103 yards and 4 touchdowns. The low touchdown number is a product of his quarterbacks being bad. He has shown the ability to be a true number-one receiver in the league and is going to be really good once he gets a decent quarterback.

The main competition for that award was his former Buckeye teammate Chris Olave. Olave also had a great year with the Saints, catching 72 passes for 1,042 yards and 4 touchdowns. As you can see, both receivers had similar stats as rookies without an elite quarterback throwing them the ball.

The other former Ohio State football player that took home some awards was Nick Bosa. Bosa had himself an unbelievable year for the 49ers. He finished the season with 51 tackles, a whopping 18.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. He was a one-man wrecking crew on the defensive line.

Because of that, Bosa took home two awards on Thursday night. He took home the Deacon Jones Award for the player with the most sacks in the NFL. He also got the big one, winning Defensive Player of the Year. That’s the one that signifies his greatness in the league.

All of these Buckeyes are still young and will only continue to get better. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for these guys.
