Two former Ohio State Football players found not guilt of rape
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team had two players accused of rape back during the 2020 season. Ryan Day took swift action by kicking both Amir Riep and Jahsen Wint off the team. Both were accused by a woman of raping her inside her off-campus apartment.
It has been three years since that accusation took place and now we know the conclusion of the trial. Both players have been found not guilty of all charges, including kidnapping and rape. Both Wint and Riep will now get a chance to graduate from the university.
According to the trial, both men claim that all acts performed in the apartment that night were consensual. They also seem to insinuate that Ohio State football personnel told them to record videos of women saying that they consent when sexual acts are performed.
Jerry Emig, Ohio State’s communications contact, said that the university follows specific guidelines and teaches its players about all forms of consent. He did not comment specifically on any sort of videotaping directive that may have been given to players.
For Wint and Riep, both get to do something other than football with their lives. For Ohio State, this might stay in the limelight a little bit longer with the accusations about that video being thrown around. Ryan Day will definitely have to answer questions about that next time he speaks to the media.
As for the Ohio State football program itself, this doesn’t really affect anything else. Neither of these players were seen as big-time prospects that could have helped the team. In fact, Riep was seen as a detriment on the field against both TTUN and Clemson back in the 2019 season.
We will see if there is any sort of civil suit that could be placed following this verdict.
