Ohio State basketball vs. Northwestern: Prediction, best bets
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball team tries to stop their heinous losing streak once again tonight as they take on Northwestern. The game is at home, which helps. Ohio State also has one of their two wins in 2023 against Northwestern after they beat them on New Year’s Day.
In that game, Northwestern shot an abysmal 28% from the field. They couldn’t hit anything all game and only scored 17 points in the first half. It’s by far their worst shooting game of the year. I wouldn’t count on them shooting that poorly this time around.
Northwestern comes into the game at 16-7 overall and is fifth in the Big Ten standings. They aren’t a great team but they are pretty solid. Unfortunately, Ohio State is terrible. So even though this is a home game for the Buckeyes, a loss is still very much in play. Yet, somehow Ohio State is 34th in KenPom.
Ohio State basketball vs. Northwestern: Best bets
Somehow, the Buckeyes are 4.5-point favorites according to FanDuel. Give me those points at -105 odds. I’m tempted to take the moneyline on Northwestern too, but the points make it much easier. The over/under sits at 135.5. I will take the under as both teams struggle to score.
Zed Key’s point total sits at 11.5. Give me the under on that for -128 odds. He’s been struggling big time and hasn’t looked like himself since he hurt his shoulder again against Purdue. I do like Justice Sueing getting 4+ rebounds at -290 odds though.
If you parlay all of that together in a Same Game Parlay, you get +579 odds. That’s pretty good if you do decide you want to bet on this game. It might actually make it watchable if you do.
Prediction: Ohio State basketball 63 Northwestern 71
Until proven otherwise, I’m just going to assume that the Buckeyes can’t win a game. They are playing with such little confidence right now and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. It’s honestly pretty disheartening to see the season go this way.
Once again, I hope I’m wrong. But I doubt it. The game is on at 8 pm and is broadcast on FS1.
