What’s next for the Ohio State basketball program?

So far, 2023 has been an absolute nightmare for the Ohio State basketball program. Since the calendar changed, the Buckeyes have just two wins to go along with nine losses. It’s been an absolute disaster. This collapse is of epic proportions compared to where this team was in December.

It was the same old story yesterday against TTUN. Yet another poor offensive performance brought them a loss. Since 2023 started, the Buckeyes have scored 70+ points just three times. They won two of those games. They’ve lost every other game.

With all of that being said, what’s next for the Ohio State basketball program? They sit at 11-12 and have eight games left. They are 13th in the Big Ten standings, only sitting ahead of Minnesota. The Golden Gophers have one Big Ten win, and it was of course against the Buckeyes.

At this point, this team looks broken. They don’t seem to have any fight left in them for these games down the stretch. The team knows they won’t be playing in the postseason so there’s nothing left to fight for. They’re just going through the motions at this point.

Brice Sensabaugh has things to show NBA scouts still. His scoring ability is very good, but he needs to show that he can pass the ball and play some defense still. If he can show those things down the stretch, he has a chance to be a lottery pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

For everyone else, it’s just personal pride. Chris Holtmann is coaching for his job at this point. He won’t get fired after this year, but next year could be when his seat gets too hot to sit on. Fans have had enough. It’s not like the expectations are unrealistic in Columbus.

Next. Road games to define Ohio State Football next year. dark

It’s expected that you make the NCAA Tournament every year and make a Sweet 16 run at least once every five or so years. That hasn’t happened under Holtmann and I don’t see it ever happening. So what’s next for the program? More mediocrity I’m afraid.
