The 2023 recruiting cycle is over for both recruits and transfers. The Ohio State football team has now shifted its focus to the 2024 class. Before we get too far down the road, we should take some time to grade what the totality of the 2023 class is now.

According to 247Sports, Ohio State has the fifth-best recruiting class in the country. As far as their transfer ranking goes, they are 47th. Ryan Day mentioned that the portal is used for them to only fill immediate needs as opposed to just adding a bunch of players at different positions so that ranking makes sense.

The highest-rated prospect in this class is wide receiver Brandon Inniss, the lone five-star recruit in this class. The lowest-rated prospect is three-star tackle Miles Walker. There are no two or one-star recruits in this class. In total, the Buckeyes signed 20 recruits and grabbed five transfers.

By far the best transfer Ohio State got was corner Davison Igbinosun. He was a Freshman All-American and was a four-star recruit coming out of high school. Not only does he fill an immediate need, but he’s pretty darn good at what he does as well.

The Buckeyes will hope he and Denzel Burke can team up to be much better at corner than they were a season ago. After having a great freshman year, Burke slumped last year and was pretty bad. Hopefully, we see more of what he did in 2021 in 2023.

Ohio State football over recruiting class grade: B+

I think this class is fine. I don’t think it’s great and I don’t think it sucks. They did lose out on some great prospects down the stretch, but that doesn’t mean the class is bad overall. I really like the addition of Igbinosun in the portal, as well as getting Ja’Had Carter in the portal too. Both should help the secondary immediately.

It’s been an interesting last couple of years around this program. Hopefully, these recruits can develop into great players and help his team finally break the losing streak to TTUN. That’s the most important goal for this team at the moment.
