Ohio State Football: Dawand Jones makes Senior Bowl history
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team will have more than one first-round pick in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft. Most years they do. That’s because of the type of tradition that the program has built over the last several decades. NFL teams love to draft Buckeyes.
One of those Buckeyes who could slide into the bottom of the first round is Dawand Jones. Jones was the right tackle for the Buckeyes for the last couple of years. He has really developed into a great prospect after coming out of Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis.
Jones is participating in the Senior Bowl to help raise his draft stock and give scouts a closer look at him. He hasn’t even gotten a chance to take the field yet and he’s already made Senior Bowl history though because of one of his measurements.
According to several reports, Jones has a wingspan of 89 1/2 inches, which makes it the largest wingspan ever measured at the Senior Bowl. That’s a massive wingspan! Given that reach, Jones will certainly be on the radar of any team that needs a tackle in the Draft.
While he never played left tackle for the Ohio State football team, he has the physical skill to do so. Jones is extremely athletic and has great footwork. Now that teams know his reach, he very well could slide over to left tackle even though his best position is right tackle.
Measurements like this can only help Jones’ draft stock. He will continue to work at the Senior Bowl and then at the Combine to further increase his stock. I’m really interested to see where he ultimately gets drafted because I think he’s going to be a very good player at the next level.
