Ohio State Football: Buckeyes add transfer portal cornerback
The Ohio State football team finally added a transfer portal cornerback on Tuesday. Davison Igbinosun is set to compete for the Buckeyes.
Former Ole Miss standout freshman cornerback Davison Igbinosun is set to join the Ohio State football team, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3sports. Igbinosun is the No. 10 overall ranked portal player according to 247sports.
This is a major addition to the secondary room for Tim Walton and Perry Eliano. Igbinosun was a Freshman All-American last season and should come in right away and lock down a starting role with the Buckeyes.
Igbinosun picked Ohio State over Michigan, so this was a major recruiting victory for the Scarlet and Gray and two fronts. Igbinosun chose the Buckeyes because of their recent track record of success in putting corners into the NFL. This, from On3sports:
"“I’ve been an Ohio State fan my entire life and everything worked out in my favor to get there. They have a history of producing first-round cornerbacks and I want to be next. Another huge reason is their receiving core. They’re the best wideouts in college football and competing against the best everyday will only make me better.”"
Igbinosun started 10 games last season for the Rebels and registered 37 tackles and five pass breakups while also mostly covering the opponent’s top wide receiver. He also was a former four-star, top-200 national player in the 2022 recruiting class.
With Denzel Burke expected to start at one corner spot, the race will be on between Igbinosun and Jordan Hancock for the other starting position. Igbinosun has to be seen as the favorite however after starting 10 games for an SEC team while playing at a high level for a freshman. Hancock was out injured for most of the 2022 season, so at the very least, this addition gives the Buckeyes some much-needed depth at corner.

Ohio State got a lot better on Tuesday with this transfer portal pickup. Hopefully, Igbinosun can get acclimated quickly and be ready for spring practices that start on March 7th. Ohio State has gotten a few transfers, so hopefully they all make an impact.
