Ohio State Football has high odds for Mr. Irrelevant
By Ryan Stano
Mr. Irrelevant has become a term that most football fans recognize. It’s the name given to the person who is taken with the last pick in the NFL Draft. Brock Purdy from Iowa State was last year’s Mr. Irrelevant and now he might lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl. The Ohio State football team has high odds for this year’s man.
According to Bovada, the Ohio State football team has the second-highest odds to have Mr. Irrelevant in 2023. They sit at +1000 odds, only behind Florida at +700. It’s kind of a weird thing when you think about it. Who could they think it would be that played for the Buckeyes?
Could it be Noah Ruggles? The kicker had a mostly successful two years with the Buckeyes, but his last kick will be remembered for failing to put Ohio State into the National Championship Game. Still, he could be a candidate since he’s a kicker and that’s not a position of value to most teams.
Taron Vincent is another candidate. The former five-star defensive tackle never quite had the dominant impact that was expected of him, but he still had some good moments. I tend to think he’ll get drafted higher than this, but you never know.
Another candidate could be Bradley Robinson. He was the starting long-snapper this year before getting hurt and was playing in his seventh college season. He’s definitely on the borderline of getting drafted, so he might be the best candidate of these three.
It will definitely be interesting to watch come draft time. As we’ve seen this NFL season, Mr. Irrelevant can become very relevant very quickly before you know it. Players always have to be ready to step up and take their shot when their name is called upon.
