Former Ohio State Football player wins NFL award
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program has all kinds of elite players in the NFL right now. You can look at pretty much any position and see a Buckeye doing great things at that position. Wide receiver, running back, defensive back, it really doesn’t matter. There’s a great Buckeye you can find.
There’s a really good shot that Chris Olave or Garrett Wilson win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award this year. Both have a great claim, although Olave seems to have more of a shot than Wilson does. If they do win, they won’t be the only Buckeye to win an award.
Former Ohio State football player Nick Bosa wins Defensive Player of the Year.
According to the Pro Football Writers Association, Nick Bosa is the Defensive Player of the Year. He had an incredible year for the 49ers, who very well could be playing in the Super Bowl in a couple of weeks. Bosa is playing in just his fourth year in the NFL.
Bosa definitely deserves this award. He had 41 tackles, a whopping 18.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. Simply put, he was an absolute wrecking ball all year long. Teams had to actively gameplan against him every single week and it still didn’t work.
Bosa is clearly better than his brother Joey, which we knew watching them both at Ohio State. It’s still a bummer that we didn’t get to see him for a full season in 2018 when he hurt his abdomen. It would have been really cool to see how dominant he could have been as a junior.
This is the award given by football writers. The actual NFL Awards aren’t for another week. Bosa could win that DPOY as well. No matter what, he’s certainly earned himself a healthy contract extension that will pay him a lot of money.
