Ohio State Football: Former Buckeyes leading the way to the Super Bowl
The Ohio State football team has pumped out some excellent talent into the NFL. One team has stock pilled on former Buckeyes.
When on the recruiting trail, the Ohio State football team can point to these NFL playoffs as proof to why recruits should come to Columbus. Luke Farrell, DaVon Hamilton, Nick Vannett, Wyatt Davis, Trey Sermon, Ezekiel Elliott, Noah Brown, Johnathan Hankins, Kendall Sheffield, Malik Hooker, Jake McQuaide, Nick Bosa, and Joey Bosa all are on playoff teams, and some have played major roles in the outcomes of games.
But the Cincinnati Bengals have a plethora of former Buckeye players who are leading them on the way to another Super Bowl appearance. To top that list, and yes, he’s a Buckeye, is quarterback Joe Burrow. Joey B might just be the best player in the NFL right now.
Burrow went into a snowy New Era Stadium in Orchard Park yesterday afternoon and slayed the dragon that is Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills. But it’s just not Burrow that is leading the way for the Bengals.
On the defensive side of the ball, Sam Hubbard probably made the biggest play in any playoff game when he returned a fumble 98 yards for a touchdown against Baltimore last weekend for the game-winning score. Hubbard has really stepped his game up the last few seasons and has turned himself into one of the best defensive ends in the NFL.
Vonn Bell has been a force at safety, either being put down in the box to help stop the run or in pass defense. Bell helped keep receiver Stephon Diggs and tight end Dawson Knox in check yesterday.
Cornerback Eli Apple plays his best football in the playoffs and punter Drue Christman has been doing an excellent job as well. These former Buckeyes are playing great football when it matters the most.
I just wish my Cleveland Browns would take notice and start drafting some of these talented Buckeyes. But it’s fun to watch this team led by former Ohio State players march their way to a second straight AFC Championship game, and possibly a Super Bowl.
