Ohio State vs. Nebraska prediction and odds for Wednesday, January 18 (Buckeyes get back on track)
By Reed Wallach
Ohio State started Big 10 play 2-0 and was 10-3 on the year, but has since dropped four straight in a crowded Big Ten. Is the sky falling for the Buckeyes?
Ahead of the team’s matchup against Nebraska, Ohio State will look to get back on track and back in the Big Ten race given it’s still the middle of January. Nebraska is a bottom of the barrel team in the conference but has given teams such as Purdue trouble at home, will they give another team issues as a home underdog?
Let’s find out what’s going on with the Buckeyes and see if they can get a road victory by first looking at the odds:
Ohio State vs. Nebraska odds, spread and total
Ohio State vs. Nebraska prediction and pick
Let’s look at the Buckeyes four game losing streak and see if there is anything more than some poor late game variance.
The team lost by two at home to a one loss Purdue team, by seven at Maryland, by three at home against Minnesota in a game that featured a very questionable call that decided it, and by four at Rutgers in overtime in a game they led for much of it.
This is still an elite ball club that bolsters a top 10 offense. Overall, despite being 10-7, KenPom ranks this team as the 18th best in the country behind only Purdue in the Big Ten.
The team’s elite offense should get on track against Nebraska’s suspect defense. Ohio State is shooting below 43% on two-point shots in league play, the second worst mark and down from their season average of 51%. They face a Cornhuskers team that is very weak on the interior, allowing teams to shoot nearly 52% on two’s and are allowing an offensive rebounding rate of nearly 33% in Big Ten play, the worst mark in the conference.
This is the perfect get right spot for OSU, who is still playing well on offense, shooting 42% from beyond the arc, and should overwhelm a Nebraska team that is the worst offense in the Big Ten.
No, the sky is not falling for the Buckeyes, they are in line for a double digit victory on the road on Wednesday.
