Ohio State Football: Buckeyes in top two of five-star defensive lineman
The Ohio State football team is a top-two school for a certain five-star defensive lineman recruit. Hopefully, Larry Johnson can close the deal.
The Ohio State football team and defensive line coach Larry Johnson are hoping for a big splash in 2024 recruiting. At the top of their list resides David Stone Jr., a five-star defensive lineman from IMG Academy in Florida. Stone is the No. 4 overall player in the class and just received an Ohio State offer over the weekend.
Stone was very excited to earn the offer, noting that he’s always enjoyed watching the Buckeyes play on TV. Here is what he told Eleven Warriors about the offer:
"“I’ve been a fan since I was growing up,” Stone said of the Buckeyes. “I used to watch them on TV, a lot of their games came up in Oklahoma for some reason. I’ve always been a fan of theirs. One of my first games watching them was against Wisconsin sometime in the late 2000s. And then of course with coach Johnson, that’s D-line U. He’s one of the best defensive line coaches in the country.”"
He also went on to say that Ohio State was among his top-two schools, with the other one assumed to be Oklahoma. Stone grew up in the state of Oklahoma and has been crystal balled to Oklahoma by 247 Sports.
Getting Stone on campus will be huge. He has not been to Columbus yet and the sooner they can get him inside the Woody the better. Recruits are often very impressed by the facilities and the vibe of the program.
This is a huge recruiting cycle for Larry Johnson as he swung and missed on his top three edge-rushing prospects in 2023. Yes, NIL money played a factor, but Johnson needs to close on a top pass rusher this cycle to help replace the likes of J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer who could head to the NFL after next season.
Ohio State is definitely in on Stone and also another five-star defensive end, Elijah Rushing, who also received a Buckeye offer recently. The Buckeyes need to capitalize and get one of these two to sign on the dotted line next December.
