The Ohio State football team will have a new starting quarterback next season now that C.J. Stroud has officially declared for the draft. They will be looking for a new quarterback, and the new QB for next season is likely someone who was on the roster last season.

Nonetheless, they are a little thin at the quarterback position. They are no longer thin because they have landed a quarterback from the transfer portal. That way, the Buckeyes have some depth just in case something crazy were to happen on the injury front.

The Ohio State football team gets a quarterback from Oregon State out of the transfer portal.

The Buckeyes get their new quarterback via another OSU. That OSU is Oregon State. Tristan Gebbia will be using the sixth year of eligibility he has to head to Ohio State. Gebbia was thrown 200 passes over the course of his career, so he does have some experience.

Gebbia isn’t that great of a quarterback, but he does give the Buckeyes some experience in the room. He will likely either be third or fourth on the depth chart next season behind both Kyle McCord and Devin Brown and perhaps maybe even Lincoln Kienholz.

I’m glad that Ohio State at least has someone on their roster who has started more than just one game. McCord had the only start of the group coming back and he did that in 2021 against Akron when Stroud sat out with a shoulder injury. No one else has seen the field.

Next. Ryan Day is on the hot seat. dark

If things go well, Gebbia shouldn’t have to see the field at all this season. It’s nice to know that he can give some of the other guys some advice and help them out though. He’s a veteran presence in an extremely young and inexperienced room.
