Ohio State basketball: Buckeyes need to share the ball more
By Jacob Rhymer
The Ohio State basketball team is looking to snap a four-game losing streak on Wednesday when they travel to Nebraska. In order for the Buckeyes to prevent a fifth-straight loss, they will need to share the ball significantly more against the Cornhuskers.
In the last three games, the Buckeyes have finished with less than double-digit assist numbers. After only having five assists in the horrid loss to Minnesota, the team finished with seven assists on Sunday in the overtime defeat to Rutgers.
If you look back through the Buckeyes’ seven losses on the season, they have surpassed double-digits in assists in just two of them. They had 17 against North Carolina and 11 against Purdue. Both of those games Ohio State should’ve won, they just couldn’t close the game out.
When you crunch the numbers, in Ohio State’s seven losses on the season they are averaging nine assists per game. Compared to their ten wins, the Buckeyes are averaging a little north of 15 assists per game. As a whole on the season they meet right in the middle at 12.9 assists per game.
The moral of the story is when the Buckeyes share the ball and have a high total in assist numbers, they’re going to be in a position to win the game. They have not been sharing the ball well the last three games and that has resulted in bad losses, and Ohio State now sits second to last in the Big Ten standings.
Ohio State cannot afford to lose a fifth-straight game when they take on Nebraska tomorrow. If they do, the chances of making the NCAA Tournament will be very much in jeopardy. One of the main keys for the game tomorrow will be to rack up the assist numbers. If the Buckeyes can get more than ten assists, they’ll have a great chance at ending this losing streak.
The Ohio State basketball team faces Nebraska tomorrow in consecutive road games for the Buckeyes. Tip-off is set for 7:00 ET on Big Ten Network. Hopefully, the Buckeyes can end this losing skid tomorrow.
