The Ohio State football team closed out its season with a loss to Georgia in the Peach Bowl. One coach actually voted the Buckeyes seventh in his Coaches Poll ballot.

The Ohio State football team and head coach Ryan Day was just given a little extra motivation for offseason workouts on Tuesday when the USA Today’s Coaches Poll was released. The Buckeyes finished fourth, which was to be expected. But a few coaches took some shots at Ohio State as the season came to a close.

Chief among them is Syracuse head coach, Dino Babers, who actually voted the Buckeyes seventh. That’s correct, seventh! He voted the likes of Tennessee, Alabama, and Florida State ahead of an Ohio State team that was a missed 50-yard field goal away from being national champions. To put this vote in perspective, no other of the 63 coaches who voted had ranked the Bucks less than fifth.

Babers deserves to have his vote taken away next season for that egregious act. He’s probably just a little salty over Ohio State taking his best safety, Ja’Had Carter, from the transfer portal.

A couple of other coaches voted a little crazy too including Nick Saban, who voted Ohio State fifth behind his Crimson Tide. In what world does Alabama deserve to be ranked ahead of the Buckeyes after the 2022 season? Jim Mora of UConn also voted Ohio State fifth.

Some coaches however did take notice of how well the Buckeyes played in the Peach Bowl and ranked Ohio State second. That list includes Boston College’s Jeff Haffley, Notre Dame’s Marcus Freeman, Kent State’s Sean Lewis, Pitt’s Pat Narduzzi, and Rutgers’ Greg Schiano.

In case you were wondering, Georgia’s Kirby Smart voted the Buckeyes fourth as did Penn State’s James Franklin. Jim Harbaugh was not one of the coaches who voted in this season’s poll.
