The Ohio State football team didn’t have a great end to the 2022 season. They lost their final two games and lost some big-time recruits. Since then, there hasn’t been a ton of good news surrounding the program. They finally got some good news today.

Even though Luke Wypler declared for the draft today, Matt Jones has decided to come back. With Jones coming back, that means the Buckeyes will only have to replace three of the starters on the offensive line instead of four. I was pretty sure it was going to have to be four.

Wypler was a borderline guy to declare for the Draft. I’m not surprised that he decided to leave, especially if he got a second-round grade. He has been a solid center for the Ohio State football team for the last two seasons after having to jump into that starting lineup following the unexpected retirement of Harry Miller.

I was convinced that Jones was gone. He didn’t have a great finish to the year either because of health issues. Jones was playing on a gimpy ankle for the last half of the year. He got beaten badly a few times because he wasn’t able to move well enough because of that ankle.

Jones is using his free COVID year to come back. He will be an undisputed starter on the offensive line. Only he and Donovan Jackson will be back as starters from this year’s squad. Justin Frye has his hands full with that unit trying to replace two first-round tackles.

Next. Three candidates to take over play-calling duties. dark

Better news would be for the Buckeyes to get some good offensive linemen on the recruiting trail. That hasn’t really happened yet. The recruiting swoon under former offensive line coach Greg Studrawa is rearing its ugly head right now. At least Jones coming back helps that issue a little bit.
