The Ohio State football team is already looking ahead to the 2023 season. The 2022 season ended with great disappointment after losing their final two games of the year to TTUN and Georgia. It was honestly the worst possible way to end the year.

With that behind them, the Buckeyes are looking forward to what happens next season. They are looking around to see which players might be back and which players might declare for the draft or transfer. They got a player back today who was on the fence about turning pro.

Cade Stover is returning to the Ohio State football program next year.

That player is tight end Cade Stover. Stover could have been a mid-round pick in the upcoming draft despite finishing off the year poorly. He had a costly drop and dumb penalty against Michigan and was a non-factor against Georgia. Perhaps that’s why he’s decided to come back.

Stover announced his decision to return to the Buckeyes on Twitter.

On one hand, Stover was really good in the first half of the season. He was a good blocker and was actually a weapon that Ryan Day tried to use out of the tight end spot for the first time. He was actually someone that teams had to gameplan against.

On the other hand, Stover finished the season as a liability for the team. He did say he was injured despite declining to mention what his injury was, so take that for what it’s worth. The Ohio State football program is also light on tight ends that have played real snaps on the roster.

I think it’s a good thing that the Buckeyes get Stover back next year. Whoever the quarterback ends up being will have weapons to throw to and a good running back to hand it off to. How good the offensive line is remains to be seen. We’ll learn more about that when we find out who declares for the Draft.

Hopefully, Stover can put together a complete season next year.
