3. Warren Ruggiero

The Ohio State football team might want to turn over play-calling duties to someone to who is a little more experienced. Warren Ruggiero is someone who is just that. He has been coordinating Wake Forest’s offense for ten years now and has some good results to show for it.

Ruggiero has been coaching Sam Hartman for the past few years. He’s been the best Demon Deacon prospect at the quarterback position in quite a while, perhaps ever. Hartman is transferring elsewhere so now might be the time for Ruggiero to make a move.

Ruggiero was a Broyles Award finalist for the best assistant coach in the country in 2021 so you know he’s a well-respected candidate. He would have instant credibility within the Ohio State football program if he were to end up in Columbus.

Again, this would be a big hire for Day. Hiring Ruggiero would mean that there’s likely no going back on who’s calling the plays. Ruggiero wouldn’t leave Winston-Salem to just be an assistant without full control of the offense he’s coaching. He’d need total control.

These are the three candidates that I’d like to see considered for the offensive coordinator position if Day is serious about giving up his play-calling duties. All of these guys would do wonders for the Buckeyes and their offense in future seasons.
