The Ohio State football team is taking on Georgia in the Peach Bowl for the right to play for a national championship. It’s only the second-ever meeting between these two programs with the first meeting coming back in 1993 in the Citrus Bowl.

This wasn’t the best Ohio State team that John Cooper had by any stretch of the imagination. This team lost two games in the regular season and then tied TTUN in The Game. They headed into that game against Georgia ranked 15th in the country while the Bulldogs were 8th.

Will Muschamp, the current co-defensive coordinator of the Bulldogs, was a player on that 1993 Georgia team. He ended up on the winning side that day as Georgia beat Ohio State 21-14. Before that game, he apparently knew that his team was going to win based on something he saw the night before.

Will Muschamp takes a shot at former Ohio State football player Kirk Herbstreit.

Talking to the media before the Peach Bowl, Muschamp took a shot at former Buckeye quarterback Kirk Herbstreit, who was leading the Buckeyes in that Citrus Bowl. You can see what he says in the clip below.

Muschamp obviously said this in jest, but he wasn’t wrong with his assessment. Herbstreit did not play well in that game, only completing 8 of his 24 pass attempts for 110 yards and a pick. Muschamp hardly played in that game and only recorded a single tackle.

It’s kind of funny to recall a game like that. It’s also wild that it’s the only time these two storied football programs have met up until Saturday night. Hopefully, C.J. Stroud plays a little bit better than Herbstreit did in that Citrus Bowl.

Next. C.J. Stroud has to win for Ohio State to beat Georgia. dark

Ohio State takes on Georgia at 8 pm on New Year’s Eve.
