The Ohio State football team has been trying to improve their team in both recruiting and the transfer portal. Ohio State hasn’t been able to get any transfers yet though. They lost out on an offensive lineman just recently. That doesn’t mean they aren’t getting others from the portal.

We told you some of the transfers that the Buckeyes should be looking at in the portal. We did name a cornerback from the ACC. We didn’t name the player who now has Ohio State as the favorite to land him. That defensive back is Ja’Had Carter.

Carter is currently ranked as the 13th-best transfer available in the portal by 247Sports. He had previously played his ball at Syracuse. He signed there in the 2020 class. In his three years playing for the Orange, he recorded a total of 135 tackles and 5 interceptions in those three years.

The Buckeyes clearly need help in the secondary. The secondary has been the biggest problem for a newly-improved defense. Specifically, the Buckeyes have had corners give up huge plays. Having a defensive back that has Power 5 experience come in wouldn’t be a bad thing.

According to On3, the Ohio State football program is now the favorite to land him. It looks like it’s a two-team race between Ohio State and Texas. Right now, it seems the Buckeyes have the lead. It’s unclear as to when he might decide where he’s committing right now.

As far as how much playing time Carter could see if he did come to Columbus, my assumption is that he would start. It’s not like any other corner on the roster right now has been good this year. It wouldn’t hurt to put Carter out there and see if he can do better.

We’ll let you know what happens in terms of whether or not Ohio State can get its first transfer from the portal this year.
