2. Caleb Downs

Caleb Downs is someone that the Buckeyes have had their eyes on for a long time. In fact, he’s been to campus twice already this Fall. Even though he committed to Alabama, there is hope among the Ohio State staff that they can flip him today.

Downs is a five-star safety from Georgia. He’s the sixth-best player in the country at any position and is the number-one safety in the country. Not only would it be great for Ryan Day and his team to get him, but it’d be even better if they could pull him from Bama.

Unfortunately, like a lot of other recruits, he was there to witness the loss to TTUN. That game did not do the Buckeyes a lot of favors on the recruiting trail. But, that was his second visit so you know he really likes everything that the university has to offer him.

I actually think it’s a 50/50 shot that he flips today. I wouldn’t put any money on it, but I also wouldn’t be shocked if he did. Landing him would give the Buckeyes their best player on the defensive side of the ball in this class. Actually, he’d be the best player in their class period.

I’m not sure what it’s going to take to flip Downs. Probably a lot of NIL money. I do know that the staff is doing everything they can to get him to come to Columbus instead of Tuscaloosa. We’ll see if their effort is rewarded or not soon enough.

The final recruit I’m watching today might be the most important one.
