Ohio State Football: Buckeyes offer transfer portal OT
The Ohio State football team has offered a scholarship to offensive tackle Ajani Cornelius. Let’s see if Ohio State can grab him.
The Ohio State football team and head coach Ryan Day have been extremely busy over this past month. Between recruiting for the 2023 class, preparing to play Georgia, and handling coaching staff changes, the Buckeyes have been at it nonstop.
Yesterday, transfer portal offensive tackle Ajani Cornelius, who played at Rhode Island last season, took to Twitter to announce that Ohio State offered him a scholarship. He would be a massive get for the Buckeyes as he was a first-team selection to the All-Colonial Athletic Association team for the Rams this year.
He also ranks inside the Top 10 transfer portal players according to 247Sports. Cornelius would fill a massive need at offensive tackle for Ohio State as it’s expected that both Dewand Jones and Parris Johnson will leave for the NFL Draft.
Cornelius stands at 6 feet 4 inches and weighs 320 pounds so it appears he has the size and strength to play at Ohio State. He also has received offers from Oregon, Nebraska, Tennessee, and Illinois so the competition for his commitment will be strong.
In the end, if Ohio State offered him and told him he has a chance to start, I don’t see why he wouldn’t pick Ohio State. There is a glaring hole at both tackle positions and I’m sure that Cornelius sees that, and offensive line coach Justin Frye is telling him that.
It was reported that Cornelius was on Oregon’s campus last weekend, so Ohio State better move quickly here to try and get him to Columbus. This is one the coaches can’t mess around with. They are in dire need of a starting-caliber tackle because of poor recruiting in 2021 and 2022 at the position.
Hopefully, they can get him on campus and secure his commitment quickly, preferably well before the Peach Bowl so coaches can start using their time for game planning instead of recruiting.
