The Game was rife with coaching mistakes. The Ohio State football team refused to make adjustments on either side of the ball in the second half and it cost them the game. On offense, it was strange how Day and the staff handled the rotation with the running backs.

Against Michigan, Miyan Willimas was clearly not as effective as he could have been. He was still not healthy and it was clear he was giving his all just to be out there with his team. Instead of letting Dallan Hayden get the bulk of the carries just like the week before, Day opted for Chip Trayanum.

Trayanum didn’t run poorly. Considering the fact he was a linebacker most of the season, I thought he had some decent moments. But it didn’t make sense that Hayden only carried the ball twice the entire game after having a monster effort against Maryland the week prior.

Ryan Day offered a bizarre explanation for why Dallan Hayden didn’t get more carries for the Ohio State football team.

In a press conference today ahead of the Peach Bowl, Day was asked why Hayden didn’t see more action against TTUN. Considering Hayden had three touchdown runs the week before, it would’ve made sense for the Buckeyes to keep using him as much as they could.

Day’s explanation was that it was more situational than anything. Quite frankly, it didn’t make much sense. You can see the quote below.

I’m not really sure how the guy that had over 100 yards and three touchdowns the week before “didn’t fit into the flow”, but somehow he didn’t! This is a nonsense answer to me that doesn’t make any logical sense. Hayden should’ve been on the field more and gotten more carries.

Would it have changed the outcome of the game? I doubt it. It may have given Ohio State more chances to run the ball well and be more balanced on offense throughout the game. Instead, Day let a guy who hadn’t gotten carries all year be the lead back.

I don’t want to re-hash that debacle anymore. What I do know is that if Day doesn’t learn from his mistakes that day that the Peach Bowl will be more of the same.
