Thank you, Utah! The Ohio State football team needed some help in order to get into the College Football Playoff. As I mentioned yesterday, one of the scenarios involved USC losing to Utah for the second time this season. Well, that happened last night in a big way.

The Trojans lost by 23 points in the Pac-12 Championship Game and opened the door for the Buckeyes to make the CFP. With USC now having two losses, the Buckeyes will leapfrog them and have a chance to play for a chance at a national championship.

Ohio State will move to four in the rankings unless TCU also loses today to Kansas State. If that happens, OSU very well could move up to three. Then there would be a rematch of The Game in a semifinal matchup. Otherwise, the Buckeyes will take on Georgia in Atlanta.

After a week of asking questions about what went wrong last Saturday, the Buckeyes will now have to shift their mindset quickly. They now have to put all of that nastiness behind them and focus on getting better in the next three weeks before they play again.

To be honest, I’m not sure how this team is going to handle that. Ryan Day faced a lot of criticism after losing that badly in the Shoe to TTUN. I don’t think the problems that we saw are fixable this year. That means there’s a good chance that the Ohio State football team loses again in the CFP semifinal.

But they have a chance. That’s all they wanted after playing the worst game of the year in the biggest game of the year. Day has his shot at redemption. If he is able to pull off a national championship now, all of his past sins will be forgiven.
