Things Ohio State Football need to fix this season
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team is still trying to recover from their troubling loss to TTUN on Saturday. It ended their season, and now they wait to see what happens in the conference championship games. The Buckeyes still have a chance to make the Playoff.
Because of that fact, the Buckeyes can’t sit and wallow in their sorrows. They have to fix the issues that forced them to lose at home to TTUN. If they don’t fix those issues and end up making the CFP, they’ll get clobbered in the semifinal game fairly easily.
The first issue they have to fix is the playcalling. Bubble screens don’t work. They don’t. Ryan Day says he calls them to spread out the defense for future plays. Theoretically, that’s supposed to help the run game. Well, it hasn’t because the Buckeyes haven’t run it well.
Day has to call more plays for his best players. More passes to Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka. Fewer plays where Cade Stover is involved. He has been terrible the last couple of weeks. They need more creative run plays as well. Playcalling has to change.
The corners need to be fixed as well. Jim Knowles has to start playing two safeties back to help these disastrous cornerbacks. They got torched by JJ McCarthy on Saturday and McCarthy isn’t even good. A change in personnel isn’t likely to happen this late in the year, but the corners need help.
Those are the two biggest changes that need to be made to help the Buckeyes finish the season out strong. They still might have a chance to win a national title if USC or TCU lose this weekend. They can’t let this season slip away. There’s still a chance for them to do something special.
